Recipe: Mrs. P’s Tea

This original recipe appeared in my book A Boozy History of Atlanta: People, Places & Drinks that Made a City. Mrs. P’s bar in the Old Fourth Ward was one of the places that held “tea dances” for the LGBTQ+ community and the city’s first drag show. Lady Bunny, a drag queen formerly of Atlanta, hostsContinue reading “Recipe: Mrs. P’s Tea”

The Boozy Atlanta Book Tour

During the release of my last book, I found myself traveling all over the South, appearing at bookstores, sometimes to very small audiences. It not only took a lot out of me financially, but also physically. This time around, since my book is local, I wanted to approach it differently. Thankfully, I’ve met some greatContinue reading “The Boozy Atlanta Book Tour”

I found out I’d been named a finalist for the @atlpressclub awards of excellence when a few friends texted me while I was at my part time job as a bartender. The last few years have been tough financially and I can no longer afford to freelance full time. I assumed that, when I made the leap almost a decade ago, once I went full time, that would be it. But I couldn’t have predicted the pandemic, the billionaires dismantling legacy publications, the constant scope creep put upon freelancers, and the like. So that’s why this means so much to me. I feel like one scrappy individual fighting my way into this industry so I can tell the stories I think are missing. This particular story had been on my mind for a while as I traveled around the country and close to home and even though I didn’t take home the prize, I’m thankful for @azureroad for existing as a place for stories like this. 🖊️ 🌼 April 🌼 Last month, I wrote this story for @ajcdining about creative cocktail garnishes but I wanted to give it more love, especially the incredible photography featured! I’m constantly inspired by the drinks scene of Atlanta and its abundant creativity. If this doesn’t have you running to happy hour, nothing will.
